The virus and the pyramids

17/12/2021 11:04

I wake up to the sound of my breath. It is so quiet . I am invigorated with silence. I pause . I go back to a time when the sounds of the city never stopped. Sometimes I pinch myself to make sure I am not dreaming.
This was not the Cairo I grew up in.
Today is my father's memorial. I wish he was with us today to see how his technology gave us the Cairo we live in today.
Decades ago, the level of the Nile's water dropped dramatically, stripping away the layers of silt on the river'ss banks. Little did we know that under those lost layers, sat dormant pernicious pathogens that threatened the existence of the very inhabitants of the Nile valley.
The scale of the human loss was unprecedented, thousands of people died everyday.
My father was at the time, an immunologist at Cairo Uni', and as he noticed that ground zero infections all emerged from villages around the Nile, he was convinced he had to investigate the soil and the surroundings of the river banks.
He contacted his trusted friend who was a geology specialist only to find that they shared the same concerns. With his help, he managed to procure various samples to his lab.
It was a virus never seen before. This confirmed their fears, it was all the dams constructed on the Nile, stripping away at the silt for decades and finally reaching the point of unearthing an ancient virus.
The geologist dated the sample to around the pyramid age. There was a missing link, how come this illness was never documented during the time one of the worlds greatest civilisation was at the heist of its glory.
From theory to theory, they reached the conclusion that the accoustics and spatial modelling of the pyramids structure disrupted the spread of the disease.
They started developping a technology to transform the current soundscape of the contemporary urban enviroment to follow the model projected by the pyramid.
Through amplifying and mitigating certain frequencies, they could control the dormancy of the virus. They first tested their new sounds on the water and the virus went dormant again. They took their breakthrough in sound technology to the next level, healing the remaining sick of the population.
The side effect to the cure was a permanently quiet city that was surprisingly disease free. The sounds they had created by absorbing and transforming the ugly noises of the city had not only contained the virus, but kept the city quiet and prevented many other diseases from spreading.
I head now to Tahrir square to attend the celebration of his memory in the beauty of this quiet, healthy new Cairo of 2050.
