[Forum Waves of Change 2021] September 2050 : Celebrating a decade of DeepX

17/12/2021 11:10

Twenty years ago, Elon Musk’s SpaceX blew up as it hosted the first ever World Economic Forum on Mars. His son - XÆ A-XII - became the world’s greatest fortune. And while their Dad avidly explored outer space, XII spent their youth researching the ocean’s depths. When asked, XII reminisces about their quest to heal from intergenerational baggage of patriarchal inherent insufficiency complex, by diving into this planet’s darkest unknown.

“I’d be a neutron without a proton had it not been for my encounter with Aulani, revealed XII, they opened my eyes to the spirit of Gaia.”

XII met Tuvalu refugee Aulani in 2025 during NYC’s Climate Week wherein Aulani gave a witness statement of the island’s disappearance.

“I remember scaling the walls of the conference rooms, trying to absorb maximal information about genuine climate action without being blamed for my father’s eccentricity. The power with which Aulani staged the solace brought to her by a piece of floating dead coral as they sat on their rooftop waiting for salvage - pierced my mind. “A hand from the Ocean - a gem within the plastic noise,” Aulani depicted. “Plastic I likely discarded myself - I made my way to them & whence an entangling of stories started to unfold - from our pasts, presents & futures. That’s when the seed of DeepX was sown.”

Ten years later, when the tidal waves submerged the last originally dry surfaces of New York City on September 23rd 2040, DeepX proved its collective genius. Reconditioned SpaceX infrastructure was circularly adapted to constitute bio-mimickedly insulated floating entities. These were then agilely connected with the deep sea for underwater green spaces, marine agriculture, circular transformation processes & geothermal tidal energy generation.

The prototype was first celebrated during Manilla’s X[R]hibition in 2032 - powered by XII’s inheritance & Aulani’s vision of sustainable collective leadership. DeepX was a hallmark of the controversial event - wherein the global community of foresightful XR entrepreneurs, engineers, investors, lawyers, storytellers & citizens launched an alternative Natural Capital accounted currency & market based on a renewably mined blockchain. The era of doughnut economics was thus launched. Over the course of the next 8 years, the world’s coastal cities were adapted with DeepX-inspired infrastructure.

“Our ingenuity, efficacy and reliability sparked from the bringing together of the whole Globe’s eyes, ears & voices”, shares Aulani. “I still remember entrepreneurs’ excitement at our conception of systemic cracks & possibilities streaming from rising sea-levels. Perhaps we benefited from a head start as a Pacific Island - low grounds and not yet alienated into the virtual world as a developing nation. Our insight was assuredly boosted by the rebellion’s courage, humility & willingness to get uncomfortable.”

Today, in 2050, we celebrate our collective bravery. The courage of the global community who took a chance to do things radically differently, who dared to bury GDP, who listened and understood how we can all flourish without subjugating an Other.

Here’s to the courage of travelling deep under the surface - to learn, connect & renew.
